Barcelona holds talks in Lisbon on Marcus Rashford deal

Barcelona want to sign Marcus Rashford this month and, although it will be very difficult to reach an agreement, they are determined to make it happen. The player himself also wants the transfer, although he is concerned about the lack of progress in negotiations with Manchester United.

Due to their well-documented financial problems, Barcelona must orchestrate at least one exit before they can make a definitive move for Rashford. Eric Garcia is the most likely to leave this month, although the club would prefer Ansu Fati to leave as they see Rashford as his replacement.

While there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding this aspect, Barcelona are still pushing to be in a position to sign Rashford this month. It has been reported that further talks will take place this week, and Jijantes (via MD) has now revealed that they took place in Lisbon on Tuesday, before Hansi Flick’s side face Benfica in the Champions League.

Barcelona sporting director Deco is leading the club’s efforts to sign Rashford, and met with Arturo Canales, the intermediary appointed by the English winger’s representatives to open talks with the Catalans.

Rashford is prioritizing a move to Barcelona, given he has fallen out of favor at Man United since the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the club’s new manager. While there is an air of desperation to reach a deal on his part, he has to be patient for now, and that is probably the message Deco has conveyed.

For now, all Rashford can do is wait. Barcelona need to sign either Eric or Fati to open up cap space, but it will be easy to get either of these deals done before the winter transfer window slams shut.
