Barcelona have made their attack the priority position to reinforce in the January transfer window, and Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford their priority target. However, several things must occur for the operation to be completed.
According to Sport, Barcelona have reached an agreement with Marcus Rashford for the player to arrive on loan for the second half of the season. They say that Rashford is determined to play for Barcelona, and will wait until the last part of the transfer market to try, despite Borussia Dortmund’s interest in closing a similar operation.
The reason for the delay is once again Barcelona’s salary limit. The Blaugrana need to free up space in their salary cap to be able to absorb Rashford’s salary for the second half of the season, despite returning to the “1:1 rule”. The total amount that Barcelona must cover is 9 million euros, half of his annual salary, although it is suggested that it could be reduced if Barcelona reaches a compromise with Manchester United.
Barcelona hoped that Aston Villa’s interest in Oscar Mingueza, for whom they will receive 50% of their transfer fee, could return them 10 million euros, enough to bring in Rashford. However, with the signing of Andrés García from Levante, that is now unlikely.
Another way would be the departure of Eric García, closely linked to Girona. However, Barcelona’s Catalan neighbors are currently offering €7m plus €3m in variables for Garcia, which would be enough for the Rashford deal to go through; The Blaugrana would also save around 6 million euros on García’s salary. Ansu Fati is another who could leave, but he has so far been reluctant and is unlikely to contribute much in terms of remuneration.
Since Pau Cubarsí’s debut, only two centre-backs in the main European leagues have played more official matches for their respective clubs: Virgil van Dijk (33) with Liverpool and Berat Djimsiti (31) with Atalanta, both with 55 appearances. Incredibly, Cubarsi is only 17 years old… pic.twitter.com/cKHlpIRs6S

Apart from Fati, Pau Víctor and Ferran Torres are Hansi Flick’s only other attacking options. However, whether Rashford would be able to displace Raphinha or Robert Lewandowski in the forward line is another question to answer, and Rashford could be limited to an option off the bench. However, if Barcelona cannot raise the money quickly enough, Dortmund’s attempts to sign him could also tip the balance, with the German side a more reliable option at the moment.
