AUS vs IND: Cricket Australia accepts mistake after being robbed by Sunil Gavaskar in presenting BGT Trophy to winning team

In a major event at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), the Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar who shares his name along with former Australian cricketer Allan Frontera in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he was not invited to come on stage to present the trophy to the winning captain Pat Cumminsalong with his Australian counterpart. The 75-year-old former Indian captain was 100 meters away from the presentation venue, while Border was called on stage to present the prestigious trophy.

The Indian legend later recalled the incident during a conversation with News Corp and commented that he would have loved to present the trophy to the winning captain.

“I certainly would have loved to be there for the presentation. After all, it is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and it is about Australia and India. I mean, I’m here on the ground. To me it shouldn’t matter that Australia won when it came to presentation. They played the best cricket and won. Alright. “I would have loved to present the trophy to my good friend Allan Border.” Gavaskar said.

Cricket Australia accepts blame

After the news of Gavaskar’s snub at the trophy presentation became a talking point in the cricket world, Cricket Australia He came out and admitted a major foul on his part.

“We recognize that it would have been preferable if Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar had been asked to take the stage.” a CA spokesperson said in a statement accepting its mistake. However, Cricket Australia also confirmed that Gavaskar was informed that he would have handed over the trophy to the Indian captain. jasprit bumrah if the visiting team had won the Sydney Test and retained the trophy.
