Alavés have parted ways with manager Luis García Plaza after a three-game winless streak left the team precariously close to the relegation zone. El Glorioso currently sit 16th in La Liga, just one point above the drop.
García Plaza, who signed a two-year extension in the summer, had been widely praised for securing a mid-table finish last season. However, a 1-1 draw against Real Valladolid, marking the end of their recent struggles, prompted the club to take decisive action.
The Madrid-born coach was Alavés’ longest-serving manager in over two decades, overseeing 102 matches since his appointment. Under his leadership, the team achieved promotion and managed to retain their La Liga status last year. His tenure included 44 wins, 28 draws, and 36 losses, averaging 1.48 points per match.
In his place, Alavés have appointed Eduardo ‘Chacho’ Coudet, formerly of Celta Vigo. Coudet found success during his early tenure in Galicia, thanks to his dynamic, attacking style of play. However, he struggled to maintain consistency and was dismissed after two years. Since then, the Argentine coach has managed Brazilian sides Atlético Mineiro and Internacional, accumulating nearly 100 games combined.
Known for his ambitious tactics, including using one holding midfielder and two forwards, Coudet’s style contrasts with the counter-attacking approach Alavés employed under García Plaza. Fans will be eager to see how the team adapts under his leadership, starting with their upcoming clash against Osasuna this weekend.
