Saturday’s opening La Liga action included three wins in the final weekend of action for 2024.
Mallorca finishes the year within the European positions, beating Getafe, with Athletic Club and Celta de Vigo also winning, to remain in the top half.

Getafe 0-1 Mallorca
Mallorca’s trip to Madrid lived up to expectations of not being a thriller, but they return to Palma with a key victory.
Both teams wasted early chances, as the match reached a key moment after 50 minutes, with Cyle Larin winning a controversial penalty and scoring his third goal in two games.

Getafe recovered in the last moments, with the Mallorca goalkeeper Dominic Greif He intervened, but the visitors held on and achieved victory.
Celta Vigo 2-0 Real Sociedad
Celta Vigo’s positivity continued until the end of 2024, as the Galicians continue to recover from a poor start to the season.
However, despite the talent available against Real Sociedad, it was Pablo Duran who grabbed the headlines for the hosts.
The 23-year-old scored from distance in the 40th minute, for his first La Liga goal, before appearing at the far post to score a second just before the break.

La Real made many changes at half-time, but it was Celta who created the most after the restart, with a third goal disallowed by the VAR.
Osasuna 1-2 Athletic Club
Athletic Club closes 2024 after an incredible 14-game unbeaten streak while fighting to beat Osasuna.
The visitors started with an advantage in Pamplona, but in the 25th minute they fell behind, as lucas torro Hooked home for the hosts.
However, their Basque rivals reacted before the break, as Gorka Guruzeta He headed home his fifth league goal of the season.
Unai Simon He made an incredible save to keep Athletic Club level right after and replaced Alex Berenguer shot home the winner late.
