16 Atlético de Madrid ultras arrested for vandalism and threats

Police in Spain have made 16 arrests after violent incidents occurred near the Metropolitano on Sunday. Several of those involved were wearing Atlético de Madrid clothing, in an incident in which around 50 young people participated, although two of those identified and arrested were minors.

According to Relevo, the incident took place around 4:00 p.m. last Sunday, after Atlético de Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Getafe. The ‘ultras’, as the police described them, were looking for other radical fanatics and entered a Chinese bazaar, where they smashed shop windows and threatened the owner and other customers.

The owner then locked the doors and called the police, who made the arrests (the age range was between 16 and 25). An investigation is underway and police are now trying to determine if they are members of the club and from which ultra group. they belong.

While it is not confirmed whether the far-right group Frente Atlético was involved, Los Rojiblancos have had problems with the main ultra group in the Metropolitano this season. After objects were thrown at Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, his area of the stadium was banned during a match: Atlético fans are divided into their “singing section”, with many whistling at the group upon their return.
