Why Barcelona are not looking to reignite interest in the Manchester United star for sale

Barcelona were one of several teams that were heavily linked with Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford before he secured his most recent contract at Old Trafford, keeping him there until 2028. However, it now looks set to leave the club much sooner.

According to The Telegraph and SkySports, cited by Sport, Rashford has been put on the market by Manchester United. Coach Rubén Amorim does not have him as a key piece in his plans and they are looking to get some money for a player who has lately grabbed more headlines off the field than on it.

However, the Catalan newspaper explains that Barcelona has no plans to reactivate its interest in Rashford as things stand. The reason is his salary: Rashford currently earns 350,000 euros net per week and, unless he drastically reduces his demands, Barcelona’s price would not be his signature. In addition, United are asking 60 million euros for the 27-year-old player.

Barcelona are looking for a left forward next summer according to multiple reports, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Rafael Leao and Nico Williams on their radar. In theory, Rashford would fit perfectly positionally, but his salary would put him at the more expensive end of those three, and the England international is older and a less consistent performer than the other three.
