An incredible diving capture by Nathan Smith
One of the highlights of the day came in the 29th minute when the New Zealand fast bowler William O’Rourke launched to Malinga of Sri Lanka. Malinga, while trying to get the shot over the goalkeeper’s head, could not get enough power into the shot. The ball flew off the joint of his bat and began to descend towards the excellent third man. Smith, positioned as third man, made an incredible horizontal jump to his right, keeping his concentration on the ball until the last second. His fully outstretched hands caught the ball cleanly, completing what could easily be the catch of the series. Malinga’s innings was shortened by just 4 runs off 5 balls, thanks to brilliant fielding from Smith.
