England right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold finds himself in the middle of a tug-of-war between two of football’s biggest giants. Liverpool are doing everything possible to retain him, while Real Madrid knows that they are just a few hours away from being able to put a contract in front of him to sign.
Various experts have been giving updates on the matter recently, but there seems to be an element of consensus: he will not be leaving Liverpool in January. Fabrizio Romano explained it in his latest update, a message that, he says, has been transferred to Real Madrid.
🚨 Real Madrid insist on signing Trent Alexander-Arnold as their main target for 2025, as revealed in March: he is the player they want.

The line in Spain has been that Real Madrid are increasingly confident of reaching an agreement, and reports have claimed that the negotiation is also 90% closed. The Athletic confirms the optimism on the part of Spain and believes that Alexander-Arnold has been leaning towards a move to Spain for several months based on informal contacts. They have offered a contract for a minimum of four years and a large signing fee.
Despite the fact that his sources in Liverpool claim that Alexander-Arnold has not had previous conversations with any club other than them, and that his permanence remains on the table. Their report points out that Liverpool’s delay in starting talks with Alexander-Arnold is a factor in the situation going this far.
Meanwhile, Matteo Moretto has written in Relevo that the news is… nothing new. Their information is that there have been no significant developments in Alexander-Arnold’s future lately. However, Real Madrid is optimistic and the decision-making phase is expected to occur in one or two months.
Alexander-Arnold’s decision will have knock-on effects elsewhere. If he leaves for Real Madrid it could spell the end for one of their veterans, but if he doesn’t they will have to look elsewhere to ease the impact of Dani Carvajal’s long-term injury. Similarly, Liverpool will develop plans to replace Alexander-Arnold if he leaves, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong frequently linked with Anfield.
