The fifth and final test match of the ongoing tournament. What is the pink test?
Pink Test started in the year. 2009 when the australian legend Glenn McGraththe wife Jane McGrath She died in 2008 due to breast cancer. McGrath had founded the ‘Glenn McGrath Foundation’ in 2005 to monetarily support breast cancer patients and raise awareness about the disease. The foundation partnered with Cricket Australia that year to achieve their goals and it has been a tradition since then. According to the foundation’s website, the Pink Test has raised more than $22 billion to support cancer patients and survivors.

3 memorable Pink Test matches Australia played at the SCG
(3) Australia vs South Africa (2009)
The first Pink Test was memorable because it was the beginning of the partnership between Cricket Australia and the Glenn McGrath Foundation. But beyond that, the match was action-packed with 5 days of elite Test cricket action between two of the world’s best cricket-playing nations. The South Africans arrived in Sydney after defeating the powerful Australians in READ and Melbourne achieving an invincible 2-0 lead in the 3-match test series.
The Australians started the match splendidly scoring a total of 445 runs in their first innings. An emphatic century since Michael Clarke was instrumental in Australia reaching a mammoth total. South Africa in response, they were bowled out for 327 runs, giving the home team a lead of 118 runs. Determined to set a respectable total, the Australians declared their innings at 257 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, giving the Proteas a target of 376 runs. The South African captain Graeme Smithwho came to bat in the 11th position due to a fracture in his left arm, faced the attack for 29 minutes with Houses in Ntini but the offense proved to be too much for the Proteas captain and he gave up his ground with 5 minutes left in the day to give the hosts a consolation win in the series.
(2) Australia vs England (2011)
The Ashes match between Australia and England in Sydney is memorable in the sense that it is the only occasion so far that Australia has lost a Pink Test out of the 15 matches it has played so far. The English not only won the match against the Australians but also humiliated the locals. The Australians scored 280 races in his first innings. In response, the visiting team crushed the Australian bowling line-up and made 644 races batting for 177.5 overs. 3 centuries came from the English batsmen, including a remarkable knock of 189 runs from Alastair Cook which provided a solid foundation and centuries of Matt Prior and Ian Bell which helped England reach the mammoth total. The Australians, in response, succumbed to the pressure and were easily eliminated by a meager 281 runs. England won the match by an innings and 83 runs.

India’s tour of Australia in 2020-21 was memorable in many ways. He is now remembered for the famous victory in The Gabba. However, India would not have achieved a historic victory in the series if they had not put up an outrageous performance to draw the Pink Test in Sydney. Both sides had faced off and dominated the other once before their meeting in Sydney. Australia expected their pace attack to prove detrimental to the Indians. However, the visiting team had its own plans.
The Australians had a strong start to the game with the bat scoring 338 races and bowl with India 244 to take a 94-run lead in the match. In their second innings, the home team further consolidated their lead by declaring their innings at 312/6, giving the Indians a big target of 407 runs. The visiting team, in their second inning, held out with the bat in their quest to save their hopes of winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21. Notably, Cheteshwar Pujara continued to bat for a total of 277 minutes and faced 176 balls on the last day of the match to wear the match down to a draw.
