Tim David’s fireworks against Adelaide Strikers gives Hobart Hurricanes their fourth straight win in BBL 2024-25

Hobart Hurricanes recorded a comprehensive five-wicket victory over Adelaide Strikers in match 24 of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 at the Bellerive Oval. Chasing a challenging target of 187, the Hurricanes took advantage of Tim David’s brilliant knock to record their fourth consecutive win of the season.

Adelaide Strikers set competitive total

After choosing to bat first, the Strikers posted a formidable total of 186/5thanks to the contributions of Chris Lynn (49 of 27) and Alex Ross (47 of 29). Lynn’s aggressive start included five fours and three sixes, while Ross anchored the middles with six fours and a maximum. Ollie Pope contributed a consistent 33 off 27, ensuring a solid platform for the lower order. Jamie Overton provided the final fireworks with a quickfire 27 off 18 balls.

The Hobart players had a mixed outing. Waqar Salamkheil was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2/22 in his two overs, while Riley Meredith and Billy Stanlake picked up a wicket each. Chris Jordan endured a difficult night, conceding 46 runs in his four overs, but managed to take a crucial wicket from Ross.

Hobart hurricane chase: Tim David steals the show

In response, the Hurricanes got off to a good start with Mitchell Owen playing a ferocious knock of 37 off just 16 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes. Matthew Wade also chipped in with 27 off 18, setting the stage for the middle order. However, the home team lost the wickets of Shai Hope (11) and Ben McDermott (17) cheaply.

It was Tim David who turned the game around with an explosive 62, not just off 28 balls, with three fours and six towering sixes. Arriving during a tense phase of the match, David dominated the pitchers with an impressive display of power. His association with Nikhil Chaudhary (22 off 22) steadied the innings before unleashing a flurry of boundaries to take the game away from the Strikers. Jordan sealed the win with a boundary, as the Hurricanes chased down the target in just 18.4 overs.

For the Strikers, Cameron Boyce stood out with figures of 2/23 in his four overs, while Lloyd Pope also picked up two wickets but proved costly, conceding 38 runs. Henry Thornton was the only other bowler to claim a wicket, but the rest of the attack struggled to contain the Hurricanes’ batting power.
