This Monday, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) elected Rafael Louzán as the new president for the next four years. The 57-year-old coach had previously been director of the Galician Football Federation. He has already outlined his priorities to address first, but his first point of contact is Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez.
Louzan, who will earn a salary of just under €400,000 a year, spoke during his acceptance speech about giving Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente a new contract. It is also interested in maintaining the 11 cities that will host the 2030 World Cup matches, but will try to recover Vigo and Valencia, which were initially left out.
However, according to Relevo, the first thing he will do is take a flight to Qatar. There is the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, waiting in Doha to see the whites in the Intercontinental Cup against Pachuca. Relations between the RFEF and Real Madrid have been difficult, to say the least, due to the latter’s complaints about refereeing and the new cooperation between La Liga and the RFEF. La Liga president Javier Tebas and Pérez are sworn rivals at the moment.
It is mentioned that the head of the Referees Commission, Luis Medina Cantalejo, is less secure in his position than when he was with Pedro Rocha at the helm. Louzan will try to extend a hand of reconciliation to Pérez and improve relations between the two in the Middle East.
Louzan is still awaiting the resolution of a court case that would ban him from holding office for seven years, scheduled for February. While he was president of the Pontevedra City Council, Louzan was convicted of fraud.
