Barcelona’s main obsession in the transfer market continues to be the left position, and it seems that Luis Díaz is still at the top of their shortlist. After chasing Nico Williams last summer, the Blaugrana could try to sign the 28-year-old.
According to Sport, with Xavi Hernández out of the picture, Luis Díaz has moved up their shortlist and is now their number one priority for the job. Sporting director Deco was always more in favor of a move for Diaz and believes his character and ability to work in tight spaces give him an advantage over Williams. In his opinion, Williams needs a more open pitch to be effective.
Jules Koundé has already played 2,397 minutes for Barcelona so far this season, placing him at the top of this particular classification. Iñigo Martínez is second with 2,316 minutes played. @AdriiFdez

Colombia’s Antena 2, also cited by the Catalan newspaper, states that Barcelona has expressed to Liverpool its intention to make an offer for Díaz in the summer. Liverpool have cautiously entered into contract talks with Diaz in recent months, with his current deal running until 2027, but there has been no progress, with a significant gap between the two parties in terms of money.
The total deal for Williams, including salary, would supposedly cost Barcelona around €100 million, while Diaz’s transfer would cost around €70 million. It is not yet known what their salary demands would be.
Clearly, Diaz is six years older than Williams, meaning it’s unlikely that Barcelona would be able to get much resale value for Diaz if they were able to sign either of them. It may be worth taking reports that Barcelona intend to make a bid in the summer with a pinch of salt, as links always tend to crop up during negotiations.
