Girona director Quique Cárcel gave an important clue about his plan to sign Eric García this month.
The Catalan side have been linked with a renewal for García despite growing interest in his transfer from Serie A.
García impressed during his season-long loan spell at Girona last season, as the club sealed its first ever UEFA Champions League qualification berth.
After failing to agree a summer deal, Barcelona’s noise focused on their desire to keep the Spanish international, despite his lack of first-team prominence.
However, the current financial uncertainty in Barcelona means that sales are always possible, and Girona could test the situation in the coming days.
Cárcel is confident that García would prefer to remain in Spain, but admitted that the deal should work for Girona.
“In the summer he was a player that we wanted to incorporate and now he plays in Barça and he is doing quite well,” according to quotes from DAZN, via Marca.
“Our intention is to try to bring him back, but that depends on Barça being able to establish conditions that are realistic for us, and maybe we can do that.”
Barcelona could demand around €20 million for the 24-year-old, which may be out of Girona’s price range, and they will look to reduce that fee.
Girona are fighting to secure a place in the Champions League last 16 this month ahead of big games against AC Milan and Arsenal.
