The diminutive but volcanic figure of Gennaro Gattuso is recognizable almost anywhere, with a stocky build, a full beard and rapidly narrowing eyes. However, the former Valencia coach has made a major change to his appearance in the name of charity.
The former AC Milan midfielder is now in charge of Hajduk Split in Croatia, and the club recently revealed that Gattuso has ditched his famous beard. The 46-year-old has sported his facial hair for an extraordinary 22 years, but this week he shaved it off, raising more than €10,000 for various charitable causes, says MD.

The fiery trainer certainly looks younger and perhaps a little less intimidating, which may be why he’s been sporting a beard for so long. After leaving Los Che, Gattuso spent time in France with Olympique Marseille before taking the job in Croatia with Hajduk. One of Croatia’s giants, it currently occupies second place in the table, tied on points with Rijeka.
