Barcelona coach Hansi Flick doesn’t have great depth in his squad, but the area that is perhaps most difficult to get minutes in is the midfield. The return of Frenkie de Jong and Gavi after their injuries has meant a rapid decline in Pablo Torre’s involvement.
The 21-year-old vowed to fight for his place this season, despite stiff competition, and had a number of good cameos earlier in the season. However, with the return of De Jong and Gavi, Torre has not played in Barcelona’s last five games. Sport say that while he intended to stay at the club, appreciating Barcelona and Flick’s willingness to keep him in the team, his lack of involvement could lead him to look for alternatives in January.
What according to the Catalan newspaper has not changed is the large number of clubs that are interested in him for his loan. The Copa del Rey clash against Barbastro, Barcelona’s first in 2025, will be crucial to assess Flick’s intentions with him.
Torre has played 267 minutes this season, but has managed four goals in that time, an average of one every 67 minutes. Torre has shown some of the attributes that Barcelona first saw in him, his shooting, movement and finishing pass, but with De Jong still short on minutes and Fermín López also in the mix, another loan would make sense.
