Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior admits he hoped to win the Ballon d’Or

Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has hinted that he too was hoping to win the Ballon d’Or last year, after Manchester City’s Rodri Hernández beat him to the award. The story exploded after Real Madrid decided not to attend the Ballon d’Or gala in protest.

The vote was split between several Real Madrid players this year, with Dani Carvajal, Toni Kroos, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius in the top 10. However, weeks after the press conference in Madrid in which Vinicius was guaranteed to win the award, the setback when it became known that Rodri would win was significant.

During the gala, Vinicius posted that he would “do it ten times more” to prove people wrong. When he finally won the FIFA Best Award, the Brazilian declared himself the best in the world.

It is a story that has followed him through the stadiums of Spain, singing ‘beach ball’, it is Rodri Hernández who brings him the Ballon d’Or. Vinicius was asked if the Ballon d’Or 2025 was one of his goals after Real Madrid beat RB Salzburg on Wednesday night.

“I always say that my biggest goal is to help my team, to be able to score goals, assists, be at my best level, because if I am like that I can help all my teammates and take Madrid to the top, which is always my biggest goal. ”.

“Individual awards of course are important, but… We can’t talk so much, it’s not the vote that people expected, but we have to continue… Rodrygo, Kylian, Jude, to do great things.”

His task has arguably become even more difficult this season, with Kylian Mbappé now at Real Madrid, providing another star for Vinicius to share the spotlight with. Likewise, Bellingham has once again emerged as one of the leaders of this Real Madrid team, something that will likely divide the Real Madrid vote again.
