Real Madrid have ended 2024 on a high note, as they achieved a resounding 4-1 victory over Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu.
It was Kylian Mbappé who opened the scoring at the Santiago Bernabéu, with a brilliant shot from outside the area. Having previously been under pressure, the Frenchman has scored in four consecutive games (after goals against Girona, Atalanta and Pachuca).
Ten minutes later, Federico Valverde added the second with an even better shot. The ball went to the Uruguayan in a corner and with an unstoppable shot he beat Sevilla goalkeeper, Álvaro Fernández.
The third would come in the 34th minute from the hand of Rodrygo Goes, who finished off an excellent team play by Real Madrid. However, there would be an instant response from Sevilla when Isaac Romero headed home just over 60 seconds later following a fine cross from Juanlu Sánchez.
Real Madrid would regain their three-goal cushion in the second half after another great team goal, and this one was finished off by Brahim Díaz for his first goal for the club since August. However, Sevilla again found an answer when Dode Lukebakio scored late to continue their impressive recent form.
That result means Real Madrid have won four of their last five games in all competitions and finish 2024 in second place in the La Liga table, one point behind Atlético Madrid.
