Juventus to withdraw from search for Barcelona star despite €50m offer

It’s all happening in Barcelona over the last week, with Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor receiving temporary permission to return to action, followed by victories over Athletic Club and Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup. Now it looks like they will be able to retain star defender Ronald Araujo.

The Uruguayan seemed to be celebrating his latest victory at Barça and on Tuesday night he was determined to leave the club for Juventus. However, after speaking with Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, Araujo would have decided to stay in Barcelona. Sport say that unless Juventus present an offer of €60 million, something they have ruled out, Araujo will not move.

According to Relevo, Juventus had a ready offer of 50 million euros for Araujo, which they were willing to send to Barcelona this week. Coach Thiago Motta had even spoken to Araujo in recent days about the move. However, after Araujo’s U-turn, the Bianconeri will not persist in the move and will focus their attention elsewhere.

Arsenal have also been linked to Araujo in recent weeks, and that interest is likely to remain on the back burner in the coming months until the centre-back’s contract situation is resolved. Araujo’s current contract expires in 2026 and Barcelona either want to renew it or will look to sell him this summer. Having signed a team-friendly deal in 2022, Araujo has the right to seek a star contract this time around.
