Diego Simeone is assembling his Atlético Madrid team to take the La Liga title push in 2025.
The Rojiblancos begin 2025 as league leaders after their incredible 2-1 victory in Barcelona.
As the hosts continue to struggle, Alexander Sorloth came off the bench to score the winning goal in the 96th minute and extend Atlético Madrid’s winning streak to 12 games.
Sortloth was the hero, but Simeone believes the situation could be changing as he aims for a third league title, after the campaign was halfway played.
“I’m happy, I can’t lie. We suffer. Barça played very well, attacking all the time. Today we had a great defensive night, Oblak in particular. That allowed us to survive,” according to Marca.
“The players are ready to compete. The strongest thing we have is the group.
“We need everyone to be ready to compete. “That is our way of fighting against two monsters like Real Madrid and Barcelona.”
Atlético de Madrid has a less demanding January than its rivals, without participation in the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, and returns from the winter break with a Copa del Rey clash in Marbella on January 4.
They will return to league action at home to Osasuna on January 12 with two UEFA Champions League matches also scheduled.
