Barcelona requests the expansion of the stadium due to the delay of the Camp Nou

Barcelona were supposed to return to Camp Nou in November 2024, but with few signs of an imminent return on the cards, the club is making contingency plans.

According to MD, Barcelona has requested permission from Barcelona City Council to extend the lease contract for the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys de Montjuïc for another month, until the end of April. Barcelona believes that he could return to the Camp Nou for the final stretch of the season in May and a possible Clásico on the 10th or 11th of the month.

The club has the green light from firefighters for its fire safety plans, and the turf will be laid a month and a half before the stadium is ready to go into action. In Montjuic, it is rumored that in the coming weeks a series of concerts will be announced that will require a period of three weeks to install their sets, which would be an obstacle for Barcelona to play there. However, one good news is that UEFA will supposedly not stand in their way if Barcelona return to the Camp Nou for the Champions League semi-finals, should it come.

This contradicts previous reports which claim that UEFA regulations mean a club must choose a single stadium for the knockout stages of the competition. If that is the case, Barcelona would have to make their choice by March at the latest, should they qualify directly for the round of 16, but could face problems if they are forced to stay on one ground due to those concerts. . It has been suggested that they could play Espanyol, Valencia or Atlético de Madrid in the round of 16.
