Barcelona hopes to push Saudi Arabia for the midfielder in summer

Now that the January transfer window is over, the sports director of Barcelona, Deco, will continue with the focus on the renewals of its contracts. Blaugrana have tied the future of several of their fundamental players, but now they have decisions to make about the future of other players with a less clear future.

The upper part of that list is Jong’s Frenkie. According to the reports, Barcelona has made it an objective to ensure that none of its players enter the last year of their contract, with the exceptions of veterans Inigo Martínez and Robert Lewandowski. His intention is that those players who are without a contract in 2026 renew their contracts, or will seek a sale in the summer.

In addition to Jong, Barcelona will have to make decisions about Inaki Pena, Pablo Torre, Andreas Christensen, Eric García and Héctor Fort. Wojciech Szczesny is expected to return to retirement at the end of the season as well.

As one of the team’s biggest winners, De Jong’s case will attract a lot of attention. After Barcelona withdrew his renewal offer, to which the Dutchman had not responded, he is expected to discuss the reduced terms with De Jong, who after five months due to injuries lost his starting point against Marc Casado. The sport says that the Jong and Barcelona camp are also aware of the interest of Saudi Arabia in it, two of the largest teams in the league are interested in it.

They are expected to come with an offer for him in the summer, and if Barcelona decides against a renewal, or cannot make one, then they will press to move. However, De Jong is not completely convinced by the idea of moving to the Middle East, and according to the reports, he wants to stay in Barcelona. If De Jong decides to run out of renewing his agreement, playing his contract, Barcelona will threaten to send him to the stands.
