Barcelona confirms Lamine Yamal’s injury – The Spanish Super Cup in doubt

Barcelona have confirmed an ankle injury to Lamine Yamal following their defeat to Leganés on Sunday night, and he will miss the start of 2025. Most pertinently, he will not be available for Saturday’s clash against Atlético Madrid in the top of La Liga.

Although he was injured just after half an hour after a challenge with a Leganés defender, Barcelona did not replace the 17-year-old until the 75th minute, in search of an equalizer. The Blaugrana claim that he has a grade one injury to his ankle ligaments and that he will be out for three to four weeks.

Lamine Yamal will miss the match against Atlético, as well as their first tie of 2025 against Barbastro in the Copa del Rey. They will then face him in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Club on January 8, and in a possible final in Saudi Arabia. If the injury kept him out for four weeks, the teenager would likely return against Getafe at home on January 19.
