Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has refused to get involved in the ongoing Ronald Araujo transfer saga but described him as one of his leaders. Flick, however, described the Uruguayan as one of the team’s leaders.
Araujo has been linked with a move to Juventus and Arsenal in recent weeks, and Barcelona are reportedly yet to make progress with a new contract for the central defender. His contract ends in 2026, and the next six months will be decisive for his future, although he could leave this month if he asks.

“I talk about it with the players and it always remains between us. He is a Barça player and nothing has changed. We are not happy with Íñigo’s injury, he is a great player and a leader, but we are happy that it is only four weeks. Against Real Madrid we saw that Ronald is back, he played a great game. This is what we expect from him, he is one of the best centre-backs and one of our leaders.”

President Joan Laporta had previously left the door open to an exit, saying there was still time to find a solution to Araujo’s situation. I would also point to ‘external characters’ as responsible for the drama that surrounded the discharge of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. Flick preferred to focus on what he has within the club.
“We are focused on what we do. I think it’s better to talk about what we can change, what we are happy about and I am very happy. It feels like a big family and this is fantastic. I speak positively because we have a great relationship with each other. We are proud that people believe in us, in the players; It is the most important thing about the work we do.”
“You see it when you arrive as a coach, this environment is fantastic. The coaches who were there before and now the new ones too. The physios and media know what to expect. But in these six months we have shown that we are having success with this club, we are all focused on it. We want to win titles, like on Sunday, it’s what we all feel every day. Things are much easier this way, but we have to prove it again and that will be tomorrow, again.”
Barcelona will face Real Betis in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night in Montjuic, hoping to advance to the quarterfinals. If Araujo is not included from the start, it would be a big surprise, but also perhaps a sign that he could be on his way out of Barcelona. Sports director Deco will hold talks with Araujo this week.
