The Indian team was in a critical position when Pant returned to the pavilion. The top order had already succumbed to the Australian bowlers and the Indian innings desperately needed a partnership to reach the mammoth total of 474 runs scored by the Australians in their first innings. all terrain Ravindra Jadeja and batsman Pant gave some hope to the fans but Pant’s irresponsible shot selection proved to be a problem for the team.
“Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! You have two defenders there and yet you go for it. You have missed the previous shot and look where you have been caught. You have caught the third man at deep. Gavaskar was performing his commentary duties with Harsha Bhogle while Pant’s dismissal took place. The Indian legend lashed out at the dynamic batsman and went on an angry rant about the way Pant gave away his wicket to the Australians.

Gavaskar explains his anger over Pant’s dismissal
After his angry reaction went viral on social media and became a topic of conversation, Gavaskar has now given an explanation on the matter. According to Gavaskar, the main reason behind his anger was the selfish intention of Pant’s shot.
“Honestly, this game has made me. Indian cricket has made me. So when I saw someone as talented as Rishabh Pant play that shot, I had no problem with the first shot he played. The reason I got angry was because the ego took over the next dance. I just got hit in the stomach trying a similar shot. I will show the player who is the boss. Trying cricket is not easy.” said.
Gavaskar further commented that if Pant’s shot had been a 6, he would have appreciated the wicketkeeper batsman, but there is a fine line between being carefree and careless. According to Gavaskar, Pant had crossed the line and given away his wicket with that shot.
