Aston Villa submit bid for new La Liga defender as search for Loic Bade cools

Aston Villa are determined to sign a new central defender before the 2025 transfer window closes, and their preferred targets are in La Liga. Having seemingly lost their preferred option, they now appear to have opted for one of their Plan B options.

Loic Bade was being pursued by Aston Villa, but after their initial offer was rejected, they are looking elsewhere, especially as the player himself has confirmed that he will remain at Sevilla at least until the end of the season. Now they are betting on a player that Unai Emery knows very well.

According to Diario AS, Juan Foyth is the player Aston Villa are now looking for and Villarreal have already received an opening. While the value has not been revealed, it is believed to be close to the Yellow Submarine’s stated asking price.

It was Emery who signed Foyth for Villarreal back in 2020. The Argentine defender arrived on an initial loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur, which was made permanent the following summer. The couple could now meet in Birmingham, although it will only happen if Foyth gives his approval.

Foyth had a very difficult 2024, as he was sidelined for almost the entire calendar year after back-to-back serious injuries. He returned in December and in recent weeks has been starting at centre-back, having previously been used as a right-back.

It is clear that these ongoing negotiations between Villarreal, Aston Villa and Foyth are serious, given that he was left on the bench in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Atlético de Madrid at the Metropolitano. It remains to be seen whether a deal will be struck in the final days before the winter transfer window slams shut.
