Aston Villa closes the deal for the 21-year-old Spanish right-back

After weeks of being linked with a variety of Spanish right-backs, Aston Villa appear to have taken their option. Levante right-back Andrés García will be their next signing, according to multiple reports.

García, 21, has been in good form for Levante this season, starting all 22 of their games in the Segunda. He also has 3 goals and 3 assists to his name so far. Relevo reports that Aston Villa has reached a €7 million deal for García, which could increase by €2 million in variables and will see the Valencian team retain a 15% sell-on clause.

Sporting CP and Real Betis were interested in García, but Villa’s offer far exceeds theirs, so he will head to Birmingham. Levante had wanted to keep him on loan for the rest of the season, but the move will be immediate, with García set for a significant salary increase.

Villa had been linked to players such as Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza and Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Ratiu, with release clauses of €20 million and €25 million respectively. It will also be a blow for Barcelona, who were hoping to earn €10 million from their own 50% sell-on clause in Mingueza’s contract and thus finance some business in January.
