Sri Lanka announce ODI squad for New Zealand tour; Charith Asalanka will lead

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced their men’s team for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealandwhich will begin in January 2025. The 17-member team will be captained by Charith Asalanka, representing an important opportunity for the young leader to demonstrate his skills on New Zealand soil.

The ODI series will take place from January 5 to 11, 2025, with matches scheduled in Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland. The match times are as follows:

  • 2nd ODI: January 8, 2025, in Hamilton)
  • 3rd ODI: January 11, 2025, in Auckland

Team composition and expectations

The inclusion of the mystery spinner Mahesh Theekshana strengthens the bowling attack, while the batting line-up features talented players like Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka. Meanwhile, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Dushan Hemantha and Dilshan Madushanka have been replaced by Lahiru Kumara, Eshan Malinga and Wanindu Hasaranga for the New Zealand tour.
