Simon Katich discusses Rohit Sharma’s post-retirement plans
Without giving any chance of a comeback to Rohit, Katich highlighted that according to him, red-ball cricket has reached a dead end for Rohit. In a discussion with star sportsKatich took criticism of the Indian captain to a whole new level and felt that Rohit has a future in stand-up.
“Well, if you look at the numbers, they are damning. We saw it in this Test. It was very selfless of him to choose not to participate in the Test, I saw it in that interview, very well spoken. There is no doubt that he will have a future after he finishes playing stand-up cricket because his humor was so good.” Katich commented mockingly.
Furthermore, Katich highlighted the kind of physical inconvenience that Test cricket can pose for a 37-year-old man. He said: “Those numbers do not make for pleasant reading. “Test cricket is not a place for 37-year-olds at the top of the order.”
India are ready to play England in a 5-match Test series in June this year. This will be an important bilateral test series that the Indian team will play after their defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. According to Katich, the England tour will not be easy for Rohit.
“Only he knows if at 37 years old he is hungry and wants to run again. “England is not going to be an easy series.” Katich pointed out.

Rohit’s batting woes are a constant concern for India
Rohit had a disappointing season with the bat, particularly in the longest format of the game. The “Hitman” of Indian cricket scored his last Test century in March 2024 against England in Dharamsala. His performances in overseas test matches have been particularly worrying. A series of disappointing knocks by the Indian captain began with his poor batting performance in South Africa in early 2024. The 37-year-old had a poor run with the bat during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His current form in red-ball cricket has further clouded his prospects of getting a place in the Indian team for the tour of England.
