Hansi Flick praised his Barcelona players after lifting his first title as Blaugrana coach.
The Catalans defeated defending champion Real Madrid 5-2 in Jeddah to win the 2025 Spanish Super Cup.
Flick’s charges were in irresistible form in Saudi Arabia as four first-half goals left Los Blancos with a mountain to climb in the match.
Barcelona’s confidence and ruthlessness in front of goal were too much for Real Madrid and they can now face the rest of the campaign with optimism.
Flick claimed the 4-0 win at Madrid in La Liga in October provided the blueprint for victory with Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha scoring in both matches.
“The match we played in Madrid gave us confidence to win this type of match and we showed it in our reaction when we conceded the first goal,” he said at the end of the match.
“The team is incredible. We stick together and that’s important. The goal is to learn from each game and improve.”
Barcelona will play in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey in midweek and are on the verge of securing a place in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League at the end of January.
The onus is now on them to get back into the league title race in the coming weeks with a six-point lead on leaders Atlético Madrid at the halfway point of the campaign.
