Barcelona coach Hansi Flick received the first sideline ban of his career after being sent off on Saturday during a 2-2 draw against Real Betis. Flick was fired for his protests despite declaring his innocence.
The German coach had only received one yellow card in the 111 games he managed for Bayern Munich and Germany, but received a red on Sunday, and MD says the RFEF has given him a two-game ban. It would mean that Flick would not be on the Montjuic bench again until they face Getafe on January 18 or 19.
Barcelona has already decided to appeal its suspension. Flick was taken aback by the decision and stated that he “didn’t say anything to anyone.” The Blaugrana coach was sent off for leaving his technical area shouting and gesturing in protest at the referee’s decision to give Betis a penalty, but Flick claims he was simply shouting at his players.

Video evidence appears to show Flick’s hand waved in exasperation at the moment the referee decided to send him off on the advice of the fourth official, but Barcelona will appeal on the basis that the referee made an error of judgment in the situation. and Flick’s behavior was not punishable. After making the decision, Flick approached the referee to protest his sending off.
If the sanction is confirmed, Barcelona will be without their coach on the bench for their final two games of the year against Leganés and Atlético Madrid, another blow as they look to regain their form in La Liga.
