Girona star chastised by manager Michel Sanchez as character concerns grow

Arnaut Danjuma, once one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards after leading Villarreal to the Champions League semi-finals, has faced a series of setbacks in his career. After a loan move to Everton, a return to Villarreal, and now a spell at Girona, his character has been questioned.

Danjuma’s time at Villarreal soured following a clash with captain Raul Albiol, during which he reportedly laughed in the veteran’s face during a training session. Although he reconciled with manager Marcelino Garcia Toral, he sought more playing time and moved on loan to Girona.

However, Girona’s head coach, Michel Sanchez, wasn’t impressed with Danjuma’s performance during his return to La Ceramica, subbing him off at half-time. “He wasn’t good,” Michel said. “I think he’s not connected with the team. He starts from an individual perspective instead of thinking about the collective. I need him to focus on the team, or it’s difficult.”

Danjuma has made 18 appearances this season, including three for Villarreal, scoring two goals. At Girona, he has provided two assists but has struggled to recapture his best form amid the team’s injury woes. It remains to be seen whether Michel will continue to place trust in him moving forward.
