Barcelona prepares for talks with Robert Lewandowski about the future

Perhaps no player has been discussed more intensely at Barcelona than Robert Lewandowski over the last year, and the Polish striker has gone through some considerable ups and downs in form. At 36 years old, many wonder if he can still succeed at the highest level.

According to Sport, Barcelona will discuss his future in February, once the January transfer market closes. If he plays at least 45 minutes in half of his games this season, he will see his contract extended for a fourth year. The Blaugrana hope he reaches that figure in February and will discuss his future with him.

They go on to say that there is a part of the Barcelona board that believes it is time to move on next summer. However, sporting director Deco and coach Hansi Flick believe his performances have been top-notch and trust him next summer. However, if his recent decline continues, the debate would open and, fundamentally, they believe that he would be willing to step aside if the club is honest and direct with him. However, his intention as things stand is to stay.

Lewandowski is the undisputed leader of Pichichi at this point, with 16 goals in his 17, 5 ahead of his closest rivals. In recent weeks that form has diminished, and Flick himself also appears to be concerned about his fitness. Lewandowski has been absent from all of December’s games, except the first against RCD Mallorca, in which he did not participate for the first time all season.
